This course is a progression from Violin Appreciation (Level 1). Students will be introduced to new finger exercises and new major music scales, as well as learn how to play songs with expression. At the end of the course, students will be able to play 7 songs (depending on individual progression.)


* It is a pre-requisite to have completed Violin Appreciation (Level 1) before signing up for this course.

16 hours over 8 sessions


Course Outline

Interesting highlights of the programme include:

  • Learn new finger exercises.  
  • Learn new major music scales.  
  • Learn new techniques of playing the violin.  
  • Learn to play with expression by using dynamics and tempo. 
  • Be able to play at least 7 songs depending on individual progression. 

Pre-requisites

50 years old and above

Singaporean or PR

Must be able to read, understand and converse in simple English

Must be fully vaccinated (onsite course)

Your trainer:

Paul is a highly experienced String Ensemble Arranger, Trainer, and Violinist with a career spanning over three decades. From 1992 to 2022, he served with the Singapore Armed Forces Music & Drama Company, where he was instrumental in auditioning string musicians, training ensembles, and arranging new repertoires. His work has nurtured notable violinists, including members of the Tang Quartet and Joshua Tan.


Paul also led as the 1st Violinist at the Courtyard String Ensemble (Raffles Hotel) and the Balcony Lounge Strings (Fullerton Hotel) from 1992 to 2020. His qualifications include ABRSM Grade 8 in practical violin performance from Kam Kee Yong School of Music. Skilled in Sibelius notation software and string ensemble conducting, Paul excels in preparing students for ABRSM exams and is a significant contributor to Singapore’s music scene.
