This course aims to introduce participants to the concept of e-commerce. It covers the overview of a business model and how e-commerce impacts traditional businesses. This course aims to help seniors explore and identify potential market opportunities in e-commerce.

Trainer Details

Peter has more than 23 years of working experience in MNCs like HP, Motorola and Shell, with more than 10 years in supply chain and logistics management.

Peter has been a freelance trainer since 2013, has lectured at Temasek Polytechnic and The Logistics Academy (under Singapore Logistics Association). He was a mentor at Lithan Academy for start-up bootcamps.

He is ACTA certified and has conducted WSQ courses for seniors in both English and Mandarin (Chinese).

Course Outline

Session 1: Overview of the business model:

a)   An introduction to the e-commerce business model


Session 2: E-Commerce in retail management:

b)   E-commerce as a virtual marketplace – platform solution to bring together manufacturers, merchants and buyers including consumers and small businesses.

c)   The impact on traditional retail business – e.g. consumer direct purchase from merchants and manufacturers.

d)   Market trends – e.g. Shopee, TikTok shop, Tmall shop.

e)   Retail platform solution – Tmall shop concept using data analytics, direct purchase with replenishment from warehouses.


Session 3: E-commerce for customer fulfilment and the delivery operations.

f)   Customer fulfilment – last-mile logistics support and delivery operations for online shopping.

g)   Identify opportunities for e-commerce – e.g. affiliate marketing, content creation.
